The Gang Wanted My Son

GANG

PURPOSE: PRAY and Trust God-He Can Do All Things

SUMMARY: When my high school son's words angered a gang, they planned to teach him a lesson. When they came for him, prayer changed everything.

The Gang Threat

MY SON ANGERED A GANG MEMBER when in high school. The gang member retaliated by telling my son he would get his "boys" to jump him the next day.

My son was very concerned for his safety and thankfully came to me about the threat he was facing if he went to school the next day. I too was very concerned. Gang violence, particularly during that time period was a very real problem, especially for young black males.

Responding with Prayer

INSTEAD OF RESPONDING according to natural means, such as calling the principal, police or other natural authority, I assured him that I would pray accordingly and that God would take care of it...and pray is exactly what I did. I prayed as an alarmed mother who did not want her child harmed nor anyone else harmed when violence is met with violence.

I both commanded and petitioned much as Christ demonstrates in John 11 when he commanded a very deceased Lazarus to come forth from the tombs as resurrected back to life. I declared that my child would not be harmed. I petitioned God to trouble the young man and his gang buddies in their sleep making it clear to them that they were not to touch my son. I asked God to appear to them in such a way that they would know without a doubt that they were not to lay a hand on my child. I further declared that any attempt they made to hurt him would be foiled.

Day of Attack

ATTACK DAY ARRIVED. My son went to school as usual. After, my son and one of his friends came to me very excited to report what had occurred when the gang members came for him. His friend came to witness just in case I doubted my sons report (why they felt I would doubt is beyond me).

Anyhow, both seemed very relieved, perplexed and excited to tell me that they were both sitting together on the bus they rode home on daily. They said a group of young men came on the bus searching for who they knew was my son. They were angrily looking everywhere at everyone on the bus but it was obvious that they could not see my son and his friend.

God Blinds Their Sight

"WE WERE SITTING RIGHT THERE looking right at them and they could not see us. Honestly, it was as if God made us completely invisible to them." the boys said.

According to my son and his friend, the gang of young men became frustrated because they could not find him and exited the bus. I simply smiled and reiterated to them how awesome God is and how He never fails his children when they trust and believe in Him.

The Miracle Continues

THE NEXT DAY my son came home excited to tell me that the young man who threatened him initially saying his gang friends would come after him, came to him and apologized for the misunderstanding and told my son that he would never trouble him again, neither would any of his "boys."

He never had any more trouble with this young man or his friend. My son is now an adult with his high school days well behind him.

God is faithful and over the years I have had numerous other testimonies of personal victories realized by God honoring my faithful stand and commitment to use the command authority He has empowered his people with.

Following the Bible to Handle Trouble

PEACE IS NOT ONLY FOR HEAVEN, but also for the here and now on the earth. Your days should not be full of trouble. That doesn't mean trouble will not come, but you can stand up and tell trouble to go. You do not have to live a life of worry and anxiety. Peace is yours.

"These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." John 16:33

Christians are those who can and should have peace in the midst of trials and tribulations. However, we also have "command" authority that many Christians fail to activate and utilize. As a result, believers can become overwhelmed by calamity and mayhem orchestrated by Satan and his cohorts, becoming weary and vulnerable to fear, anxiety, and so on (Mark 4:38-40; Matthew 17:20; Luke 10:18-20).

"And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying: The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which showed unto us the way of salvation. And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour. Acts 16:16-18 In the above passage the word "grieved" can be equated to Apostle Paul's "peace" being broken by the works of evil spirits. Therefore, he used his command power to send the forces to flight and go on with his works in peace.

Protecting Your Family From Trouble

YOU CANNOT ELIMINATE ALL TROUBLE from your life. Jesus said, "In this world, you will have tribulations." But, Jesus also said, "But be of good cheer. I have overcome the world." John 16:33

Jesus said, "If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you." John 15:7

So, what should we do to obtain help from God? It is simple.

  1. Study God's will in the Bible so we truly understand what He would have us to do.
  2. Follow what God's Word and what the Holy Spirit guides us to do (abiding in Him).
  3. Keep God in the loop in our daily lives, praying constantly for direction, protection, elimination of evil, etc.

God is all powerful, can do anything and knows all. Live with peace in your heart when you live under His will for your life. Trust that no matter what happens, it will work together for good as long as you are living in His will. Romans 8:28

And know, that if you live in God's will, He may just do a few miracles in your life too.
